The Mackay Medical Staff Association is the representative body for the Medical and Allied Health Staff working within the Mackay Hospital and Health Service and are comprised of various health professionals such as doctors, nurses, pharmacists and allied health. The organisation aims to provide social, educational and advocacy opportunities for members and the entire medical workforce in Mackay and it surrounding regional health centres. The MSA organises multiple social and sports events throughout the year, aimed at promoting interdepartmental networking occasions. The MSA also endeavours to organise pertinent educational activities, career advice evenings and financial information sessions.

Located midway between Brisbane and Cairns, the Mackay Region stretches from St Lawrence in the south to Bowen in the north and inland to the town of Clermont with a population of approximately 160,000 people in a 90,000 km2 area incorporating the Mackay, Whitsunday, and Isaac Local Government areas.

Mackay is a major coastal city located on the mouth of the Pioneer River. A highly prosperous town, Mackay supports three major industries: sugar production, mining and tourism. It is the commercial and business centre for sugar farmers, cattle producers and several western mining towns in the Bowen Basin.

Mackay has a lot to offer both visitors and residents. To our west Eungella National Park spreads over 50,000 hectares of beautiful waterfalls, crystal clear streams and quaint townships. Cape Hillsborough National Park in the north, offers a picturesque coastal rainforest running right to the sandy beaches and rocky headlands. South of Mackay is Sarina with beautiful unspoiled beaches, nestled in the foothills of the Connors Range. Mackay is the gateway to Airlie Beach and the seventy-four islands of the Whitsunday's, the ideal starting point for a day trip to the Great Barrier Reef.
